Aquire Inc. and SAP AG Integrate Web-Based Org Charting into SAP HR
- SAP HR Users Gain New Functionality Using OrgPublisher for Intranets™ -
PHILADELPHIA - Sept. 13, 1999 - Aquire announced today a partnership with SAP AG to integrate OrgPublisher for Intranets with SAP HR 4.6, allowing users to generate ERP reports and access interactive, full-color organizational charts within SAP HR. This partnership extends SAP's efforts with MySAP.com to enable SAP R/3 for the Web and represents the first ERP system with fully functional, Web-delivered org charts. "With OrgPublisher for Intranets, SAP is now able to answer requests from HR managers worldwide who need a powerful, easily accessible, Web-based org charting solution," said Uwe Schlenker, program director at SAP AG. "Our commitment with Aquire is founded on its strengths as a Web-based org charting tool and strong reporting tool." Aquire and SAP expect full distribution and availability with SAP HR 4.6, due in the first quarter of next year. Brian McDonough, an ERP analyst with International Data Corp. in Framingham, Mass., said this agreement represents SAP's growing interest in capturing market share in HR and offering users more features and product flexibility.
"Giving HR managers functions and features to help them with org charting and organizational reporting using Aquire's OrgPublisher for Intranets is a smart strategic move for SAP," said McDonough. "It provides real power and valuable on-line capabilities for SAP HR users while giving SAP HR something no other ERP vendor offers." The product integration involves joint development efforts between Aquire and SAP to create an SAP-specific interface that users may access from SAP HR's Manager's Desktop. Creating org charts and generating management reports will be a simple point-and-click, drag-and-drop process. In addition, SAP HR's services consulting group is offering OrgPublisher functionality to its existing customer base - those with SAP HR 3.1g and above. OrgPublisher is sold separately as an SAP HR add-on.
Chester Gittleman, director of human resources information systems at Colgate-Palmolive Company (NYSE:CL) in New York, an SAP R/3 and OrgPublisher customer, said that developing org charts directly from SAP R/3 provides real benefits. "By using OrgPublisher with our company's intranet, we have been able to publish feature- and information-rich organizational charts directly from our SAP system," Gittleman said. "We are also able to automatically update our org charts twice a month rather than a few times a year to provide management and employees a much more accurate representation of the company to make better business decisions." Lois Melbourne, founder and president of Aquire Inc., says one of OrgPublisher's most powerful capabilities is its Summary Engine. "This engine puts every individual in the driver's seat to perform detailed analysis of employee data, including numerical calculations. The data are then presented in a colorful, charted format that is easy to understand. Common reports that are generated included employee head counts, gender mix, exempt/non-exempt, department budgets, sales figures and number of open positions.
SAP HR users can use OrgPublisher to automatically:
- create org charts that can manage tens of thousands of database records
- generate org charts directly from the SAP HR Manager's Desktop toolbar
- distribute org charts on the Internet or company intranets
- search interactive org charts for variables such as employee names, phone numbers, e-mail addresses and other user-defined data
- navigate entire org charts with drill-up and drill-down features
- develop reports for strategic analysis, including head counts, open positions, gender mix, titles, salary comparisons and position types (employees, contractors, etc.)
- zoom in/zoom out for detailed viewing of large charts
