HR specialists at Solvay, a global leader in the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, were faced with more complex hierarchies and responsibilities as the company grew in size and global presence. Besides geographical factors, the separation of functional and hierarchical structures, which is typical for multiline organizations, added to the complexity of their organizational design.
